Monster Mash Engagements

The Bell House and Singularity&Co Present

Monster Mash 2012 feat. The Engagements.

The Bell House and Singularity&Co invite you to crawl through the cobwebs of vintage industrial Ghoul-wanus for a costume ball of epic proportions featuring Party Like Its 1999′s Steve Reynolds spinning all of your favorite party jams of days past before, after, and in between live sets from NYC’s premier tribute band The Engagements.

Originally created to play at a picky friend’s wedding, The Engagements have earned a reputation as a unique, “anti-wedding-band” wedding band. Comprised of some top-flight professional musician friends who share a love of hand claps and synthesizers, they’ve found a warm reception from couples seeking music outside the typical “wedding band” offerings. Their band members have toured in the bands of some recognizable acts – from Michael McDonald and Michael Buble, to Sharon Jones and French Kicks.

Tonight however, their viral 80s covers have been quarantined to the Half Moon, where the dance party will mutate into a celebration of the Undead 80s that few will live to see. Prepare to bop to this 10-piece band’s high-energy, faithful 80s favorites, while avoiding cannibals and bath salt addicts. -Featuring the music of The Smiths, Michael Jackson, Simple Minds, Eurythmics, The Cars, Talking Heads, and much more.

Cruel Summer

80s Cover Band The Engagements live in Brooklyn

Our 10-piece 80s cover band The Engagements is playing Friday night and you’re totally invited!  It’s the “Cruel Summer” 80s Dance Party.

Performing songs by The Cure, Simple Minds, Hall N Oates, Cameo, Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, GoGos, The Fixx, & more.

This Friday, August 10, come party with “possibly one of the best cover bands in the universe” (GowanusYourFaceOff.com)  at The Bell House in Brooklyn.

Come early to get your New Wave fix with DJ B-Movie, stick around for live 80s band The Engagements covering all the classics, followed by a late night set of funky dance and freestyle hits by Party Like it’s 1999 Steve Reynolds. (Tell us if there’s a song you’ve GOT to hear, we’ll pass it on.)

All night long the Bell House will be serving special $6 cocktails that just happen to be named after things that *might* remind you of the night’s theme: the Rum DMC, the Bananarama, and The Miami Vice, plus the trashiest snack ever, Doritos and nacho cheese (it’s like we’re making the midnight 7-Eleven run for you!)

Rock your favorite 80s look (neon? crop tops? checkered Vans?) and you could win free tickets to any Bell House show of your choice and a John Hughes DVD set.

Tickets are $10 at the door or $5 in advance using the code 1980.

Brooklyn Based and the skint present:
Cruel Summer 80s Dance Party
Friday August 10, 8pm-2am
The Bell House
149 7th St., Brooklyn  (btwn 2nd and 3rd Ave.)

Schedule:
8-9 DJ B-Movie (new wave)
9-10:15 The Engagements
10:15 – 10:45 DJ B-Movie
10:45 – 12 The Engagements
12-2 am Party Like it’s 1999 Steve Reynolds (funky dance + freestyle)

From the previous Engagements Bell House show – the “Undead 80s Zombie Prom”:

“Hordes of Zombies showed up as midnight approached to a dance their faces off! The Engagements, possible one of the best cover bands in the history of the universe, opened the show with a slightly altered version of 1999 in which 99′ was substituted for 89 to match the night’s theme. This was the first of many amazing Prince’s covered featured throughout the night. One the three lead singers, who was dressed as Death, belted out the voice & soul of Prince which shocked the audience because his talent was simply unbelievable. The other singers as well as the entire band produced some of the greatest sounds of 80′s music that we have ever heard. If you ever need a band for a special event or wedding The Engagements are the way to go.

We danced the night away until we felt as dead as all the Zombies in the room. It was one of those nights that was so amazing that words simply can’t do it justice. If you ever hear the words “Undead” and “Bell House” in the same sentence be a part of whatever it is! Thanks Bell House for making us go gaga for Zombies!”GowanusYourFaceOff.com

See you there!!!

2ND UPDATE: Another Undead ’80′s Zombie Prom is in the works, but the sequel is coming at you ON A BOAT.  It’s the Rocks Off Concert Cruise series, and we’re headling on Friday, Sept. 28th, 2012.  More info here!

UPDATE:  “One of the best parties in the history of parties…  …One of the best cover bands in the history of the Universe.” – GowanusYourFaceOff.com

Wow.  Friday the 13th.  What a fun night at The Bell House.  Thanks to each and every zombie who came out.  We were moved by how many people came decked out, despite the freezing cold Brooklyn weather.  Y’all were getting down!

Guess what? We’re psyched to be heading back to THE BELL HOUSE in Brooklyn on Friday, January 13th.

That’s right – FRIDAY THE 13TH (!!!)

This party could be the death of us all.

1/13/12 = ZOMBIE PROM

Turns out we’ve been quarantined and left for dead since the late 80′s, along with the students of Gowanus high school.  We were originally hired to play the 1989 Gowanus high winter formal, but alas, things went horribly, horribly wrong.  From The Gowanus Star:

80s Zombie Prom Article

So we’re going to party like it’s 1989.

We plan on digging into a couple of thick 80s dance sets.

We hope you’ll join us, and our 10-piece 80s cover band, on 1/13/12.

Tix are $12 in advance, which includes a free drink. Buy tix HERE.

Here’s “Let’s Dance” from one of our “pre-virus” shows.
